When you see people in need and have the ability to help, you do.
Our benefactors, long-time Mission residents involved in healthcare, who have a passion for the arts, want to ensure there is a vehicle in place to help organizations that help people in need.
The primary goal of this fund is to provide grants for programs and projects to groups that support people and lend a helping hand in a time of need. Organizations such as:
- St. Joseph’s Food Bank
- Mission Food Bank (MCSS)
- Sara House for Women
- Mission Youth House (MCSS)
- Rivendell (MCSS)
- Haven in the Hollow (MCSS)
- Mission Association for Community Living
- Fraser House
If there are no grant applications for Caring projects, this fund is also set up to provide funding for the development and creation of Arts and Culture projects in Mission.
Whether its Caring organizations or Arts and Culture organizations, their budgets are never big enough to cover the need and this fund is set up to help them. When you give to this fund, your dollars will continue to give forever and you can have the satisfaction of knowing that you helped people in Mission.
If you want to help people in need, contribute today!

Derrough Fund

Providing grants for musical equipment and sheet music to registered charities as well as scholarships to students studying music.
Read MoreDerrough Fund
Dennis and Joan Derrough love music, this is evident weekly as they attend all the Concerts in the Park during the summer.
Their fund is designed to help schools and organizations purchase equipment and sheet music, and for the last few years has been used to add to the School District’s music departments by purchasing hand bells and percussion instruments.
When not used for equipment, this fund has a secondary purpose of providing scholarships to students studying music.
Edwin S Richards Arts Based Curriculum School is grateful for the support it has received from the Mission Community Foundation. In particular, a grant from the Derrough Fund has enabled the school to share its music with the local community through the purchase of 30 music stands. This has made it possible for our tone chime and hand bell choir to perform outside the school. In addition, the purchase of music stands has allowed the school to add a beginner band class to its comprehensive music program. ` Sharon Widdows, principal

Donald & Doreen Lanoville Fund – Music

A granting fund that helps Mission Public Schools purchase musical equipment and sheet music.
Read MoreDonald & Doreen Lanoville Fund – Music
Don & Doreen grew up in Richmond, married and eventually moved out to Mission where they bought 10 acres in the Hatzic prairie. They had a working farm for many years and have a number of rare apple trees onsite. Don speaks of his wife fondly and created this fund, in part, to honor her memory and their life together.
In December of 2021 Don decided that he would like to give back to the community and started a fund with Mission Community Foundation. This fund will be a granting fund that has a dual purpose.
- The first purpose will be to support School District 75 music departments by enabling grants to purchase musical equipment and/or sheet music.
- The second purpose will be to support Mission Youth (MY) House by providing grants to run programs for that group.
If you would like to help Mission Public schools purchase new musical equipment and sheet music, donate today!

Fenmo Boswyk Music Fund

Providing grants to purchase musical equipment, arrangements and compositions for organizations in Mission BC.

This fund is a dual purpose fund providing scholarships and grants focusing on music in our community.
Fenmo’s love of music was legendary. He played with Mart Kenney on occasion and was a self taught, gifted musician, playing piano mostly by ear. Wanting everyone to have an opportunity to play and listen to music, he generously donated a baby grand piano to the Clarke Foundation Theatre and it is enjoyed today by entertainers and students alike.
His wife Marilyn wanted to continue Fenmo’s legacy for his love of music. Marilyn donated to the Mission Community Foundation in his name to support students and organizations with scholarships and grants that focus on music.

Glen Kask Theatrical Legacy Fund

To provide grants to community groups to assist in the production of theatrical events.
Read MoreGlen Kask Theatrical Legacy Fund
Glen has been involved in entertainment industry most of his life. Working as a broadcaster, newspaper man, photographer and writer, he has been fortunate to experience many live arts venues.
”Establishing the fund with the Mission Community Foundation was my way of giving back to the artistic community some of what they had given me over the years. I could never have afforded to buy tickets to all the events for which I received complimentary tickets so this fund is intended to help those groups that were a help to me in my work”.
Glen has advised local youth groups to apply for funding for their theatrical productions and since then, the fund has supported groups such as Youth Unlimited – Jester’s Theatre in their annual productions.
The Mission Community Foundation has been a backbone of support for our costuming department over the last several years. Each year at our shows, we hear rave reviews from both our participants and their parents and also from audience members, ‘What amazing costumes’. Every year we see the students put on their costumes and become someone new, someone confident and we are amazed to see how far they have come. Many of our students struggle with rejection, anxiety and learning challenges. We are thrilled to see them grow to the point where they are able to mentor ones younger than themselves to overcome in the face of adversity, and to be a good friend. These students have found a place where they belong and thrive.
Our deepest gratitude goes out to the Mission Community Foundation through the Glen Kask Fund for making this possible.”

James Muir Jr started this fund in memory of his parents who were very involved with our community.
James Sr moved to Canada in 1910 and worked for CIBC in a number of towns before settling in Mission. James Jr followed his dad’s footsteps and was a banker for 22 years as well as a recreational pilot. In 1976 he received a license to operate Klahanie Air, a charter float plane business and he left banking.
In 2007 after hearing about what the Mission Community Foundation has done for our community, James Jr started this fund. Reel on the River Fund

To provide support to registered charities dedicated to furthering arts in Mission.
Read MoreReel on the River Fund
The REEL on the RIVER Fund is a granting fund that was created in 2012 with the goal of supporting the arts in Mission.
A group of Mission women interested in showing independent, Canadian and foreign films in Mission started Reel on the River film series in the fall of 2008. This was done with the assistance of Film Circuit and the Toronto International Film Festival. Their idea was to show films that would not normally be brought in to the local theatre. Their goal was not to make a profit but to be sure to cover their costs. After each series there is always a small amount of money left over. They decided that by using that money to create a fund with Mission Community Foundation, their legacy of supporting art, in this case film, in Mission would continue for years to come.
The grants from this fund have been used to support groups like Kids Art in the Park through the Mission Arts Council and the Jesters Theatre.
