A Little Help From Our Friends
Community Foundations like to help each other whenever possible. The Vancouver Foundation has helped a number of Foundations over the years. In the early 2000’s they had a grant offering called ‘Lead Program’ whereby Community Foundations could apply for grants. The funding was then used to provide grants to charities within the community foundations local area.
From 2002 to 2007, Mission Community Foundation actively utilized the Lead Program and through that funding, it was able to provide grants to charities in Mission. A total of $11,000 was utilized to provide grants to: Lifetime Learning, Mission Search & Rescue, Mission Literacy in Motion, Tetra Society of North America, Mission Community Services, School District 75 and Mission Association for Community Living.
In recent years, Vancouver Foundation has continued to assist the smaller Community Foundations in BC. In 2020 they offered Mission Community Foundation $30,000 unconditional granting to charities during COVID. That money went to Starfish backpack program, Mission’s Food Bank, Zajac Ranch, Lifetime Learning, Big Brothers & Sisters, SARA for Women, and Mission Archives.
Although Mission Community Foundation relies on its internal funds to provide grants to our local charities, we intend to keep the lines of communication open with all the Community Foundations to work together to make BC strong.
