Hannah Dodd was a very intelligent young woman who had a beautiful spirit, an incredible inner strength and wisdom beyond her years. She lived her life with integrity, kindness and respect for all.
After Hannah’s death in 2009, the family created a scholarship fund as they wanted to memorialize the daughter that brought joy to their lives. As part of that, they requested donations at the funeral to be directed to Mission Community Foundation. Funds poured in and within six months the fund was established with $17,836.00. Since inception the fund has continued to grow with annual payments from the family through their work donation matching program. Payroll deductions are taken off their cheque and the amounts are doubled and sent to the Foundation as a donation.
This scholarship is available to graduating students with high academic results, who volunteer in the community of Mission and wish to pursue a degree in Science or Mathematics with a goal of studying medicine or medical research. The benefactors have set it up so that the fund can continue to provide funding to the same student for the full 4 years of their studies if they choose.
Since inception this fund has helped 4 students (one for 4 years) for a value of $7,000.00.
If you’d like to help a student pursue post-secondary studies, donate today!
