Hollister General Fund

In the early years, Vic & Hilda Hollister were very involved in the development of the Mission Community Foundation.  Vic sat on the Board of Directors, as well as Asset Development, Investment and Scholarship committees for several years.

Vic & Hilda also started several post-secondary education scholarship funds with Mission Community Foundation.  They saw that our community needed a vehicle to help citizens continue their educational studies and in 1994, the Hollister’s created the Mission Memorial Hospital Study Fund in memory of Vic’s Mother, Neva Hollister.

The funds original objectives were to assist in the upgrading and modernization of skills for health care workers at Mission Memorial Hospital or to provide a scholarship to a graduating student entering health field.  From 1994 to 2009, Mission Community Foundation provided $19,123.00 to Mission Memorial Hospital for their modernization and upgrade training programs.

When Mission Memorial Hospital became part of the Fraser Health Care Authority, the focus shifted from Hospital upgrade training to providing scholarships to graduating students and it’s name was changed to the Hollister General Fund.  The criteria for scholarship was relaxed and it is now available to any graduating student pursuing post-secondary training in any field of interest.

Since 2011, this fund has provided seven students with $1000 each to further their educational dreams.

The fund distributions now exceed the capital with a total distribution of $26,123.00 on a $20,000 investment.
