Adair Family Fund – Finance / Accounting

Doug & Lorna Adair lived in Mission for 32 years. In 1986 they wanted to break the ‘workaholic pattern’ and do something in the service area and went to Papua New Guinea with the United Church.  Doug worked as a business manager and managed the general store. Lorna worked as a nurse.

The Adairs were also deeply involved in our community.  Doug was an Alderman, member of the Kinsmen and Rotary clubs, elected to the School Board, and served on the Hospital and Regional Health Boards.  He volunteered with Archives and the Thrift Store as well. Doug received Freeman of Mission status for his contributions and received the BC Community Achievement award.

Lorna spent most of her working life as a nurse and volunteered with the Kinettes, Red Cross, Parks & Rec Commission, Mennonite Central Committee and St. Andrews church.  She was also one of the driving forces behind the Mission Arts Council and offered their home as the first gallery to show local artwork and hold classes.   She has received a lifetime achievement award in 1995.

Reflecting on her life of community service, she reverently believes “Volunteering gives you the chance to give back what has been given to you”.

Doug and Lorna started the Adair Family Fund in 1998 as a bursary available to students studying Arts, Finance or Accounting.
