Jonson Bequest Fund
Marta Jonson immigrated to Canada, married Axel Jonson and after the flood of 1949 they settled in the Dewdney area.
As a young girl in Finland, Marta was a top gymnast in school. To remain fit, she took up ballet as an adult. Marta was also affected by substance abuse through others in her life.
Marta bequeathed part of her estate to the Mission Community Foundation. This bequest came without stipulation and the Board at that time determined the fund would be utilized to provide assistance for drug and alcohol abuse in Mission and for the study in gymnastics or dance. Monies from this fund have traditionally been used to provide grants for substance abuse prevention programs.
If you would like to help support the organizations in Mission working with substance abuse, donate today!
