Wayne Douglas MacLean Memorial Scholarship
Brent Rock decided to create the Wayne Douglas MacLean Memorial Scholarship to help support LGTBQ2SA youth of today in ways that were not available in the past. Wayne encouraged Brent to be comfortable with his identity, not to fear life, to be there for others and to support their community whole heartedly. Brent wanted to honour Wayne through this Scholarship fund which is dedicated to youth who identify with or champion the LGTBQ2SA community.
Shortly after they met, Wayne was diagnosed with Lymphoma and he was given 6 months to get his affairs in order. Did that stop him from enjoying life? Absolutely not! Wayne and Brent got married and managed to spend 18 years together before another strain of cancer took Wayne in 2014.
Wayne and Brent made the best of their time together. They owned the Foxwood Bed and Breakfast in Calgary as well as the Aspen Café & Gallery in Water Valley, AB. Wayne was a talented performer and watercolourist and sold many paintings through the café.
