William & Edith Heptonstall Bursary

The Heptonstall Family arrived to the Hatzic Prairie in 1918 and quickly established their family as valued friends and neighbours to all that met them.

William & Edith Heptonstall had 3 children, Jack, George, and Barbara. None of the children married and when it came time to do up his will, Jack approached his lawyer, financial advisors and neighbours for advice. Fortunately for Mission Community Foundation, everyone suggested that he add a donation to the Foundation in his will.

Mission Community Foundation was quite surprised when they found out that they were the benefactors of Jack’s estate and that he left the property, 120 acres, to it. Jacks’ will stipulated that 6 bursaries were to be created. He provided names for all 6, providing qualifiers for 2 as well. The remaining 4 bursaries were left to the Mission Community Foundation to assign.

Established in 2022, this fund is an open scholarship available to any field of study. It is open to students living in or going to high school in Mission BC.

The Heptonstall family has donated multiple boxes of familial historical information to the District of Mission – Community Archives. If you would like more family information, we encourage you to visit the Archives.
