Board Members

The Mission Community Foundation is managed by a Board of Directors of eleven members, plus many volunteers who participate on committees.

Shelley Carter - Chair

Appointed - Fraser Valley Regional District Representative

Shelley Carter was born in Mission, as was her husband Cal. They have raised their children (Samantha, Alexandra and Lee) here as well. They live in Dewdney and love the Rural area.  Shelley started out as a hairdresser but her passion for education became apparent when her children started school.  In 1992, she jumped in right away and was on the executive of the Parent Advisory Council (PAC) at Dewdney Elementary. That led to many years as Chair and other positions.  Onto high school  when their eldest started and she again jumped into the executive of Hatzic Secondary PAC. Shelley was on both PAC”s when she joined DPAC. Working through the executive positions she subsequently became Chair of the District PAC.  Shelley’s contributions to Hatzic Secondary now Middle School resulted in a Citizenship Award in her name which is presented to well-rounded students that selflessly give their time.

Shelley is a Mission School Trustee. She loves her job on the Board of School Trustees and representing the areas of Hatzic Prairie, Durieu, McConnell Creek, Dewdney, Deroche and Lake Errock.

 Shelley also enjoys expressing herself artistically by designing beautiful floral arrangements and is a certified Florist from UFV. She works from home where she combines her passion for flowers and creativity.

Shelley joined the Mission Community Foundation in 2019 as the Fraser Valley Regional District Representative and her unconditional love for Mission and the people in it will be put to great use.  She is a true advocate of Mission as her family has been in Mission since the early 1930’s.

Elected

One of the youngest Board members, Lucas ” Cameron James” McKinnon is an active community member and owner of Cameron James Men’s Wear.

Lucas takes a special interest in the Foundation’s Scholarship and Bursary programs. Having both an artistic and entrepreneurial background, his questions and advice for scholarship recipients are thought provoking and insightful. He can be found at his store, or attending Mission Community Foundation events.

Gurdeep joined the Board of Directors for the Mission Community Foundation this year, and brings a strong background in Finance and Human Resources.

Michael  is the Executive Director of the Woodlawn Mission Funeral Home and is a member of Rotary.  We welcome Michael to the Mission Community Foundation Board of Directors.

Christine is an active volunteer in Mission community, and is elected to the Board of Directors for the Mission Community Foundation.  We are very pleased to have Christine on the Board as she has a strong community perspective.

Carol Hamilton

Appointed - Mission City Representative

Carol is the City of Mission’s representative. She has called Mission home since 1975. She enjoyed a successful career in banking, having worked 20 years with TD Canada Trust and 13 years with Envision Financial. Carol retired at the end of 2013. She has two adult children; her daughter and family live in Kelowna and her son lives in Mission. Carol has served as an elected School Trustee for Mission Public Schools for 9 years. As well, she is a Rotarian, a member of the Distribution Committee, the Development Committee and is a member on the Board of Fraser House. Carol was inducted into Mission’s Sports Hall of Fame for her volunteer work with The BC Winter Games. In her spare time, she enjoys playing golf and hopes to improve her game.

Linda represents Mission Public Schools and is on the Board of Schools Trustees.  Previously, Linda was an educator and We are very pleased to have her as a member of its Board.

Stephen is the Executive Director for the Mission Community Skills Centre Society.  We are pleased to have Stephen, with his wealth of knowledge and experience, on the Board of Directors.

Executive Director, Jamie Hayes, joined the Mission Community Foundation in 2024.
She is available to benefactors, donors and community organizations to assist with all matters pertaining to the Mission Community Foundation.
