This bursary was created in 1999 the Mission Loggers Sports Association.  The Association had been operating since 1969 as an official sport. Events included: axe throwing, obstacle power saw bucking, sanding block chop, chocker-man’s race, PeeVee log rolling, springboard chop, horizontal chop, tree climbing, tree falling, log birling, obstacle pole bucking, double hand bucking and pole falling.

On March 1, 1971 Queen Elizabeth the Second proclaimed and declared that the Loggers’ Sports shall be the provincial industrial sport of British Columbia.

When the Mission branch of the Sports Loggers Association closed, they decided to invest some of their money with the Mission Community Foundation and created this bursary for students pursuing a career in: forestry, Geo-sciences, Wildlife Management, Archaeological studies, Engineering (roads & bridges), Plant Biology, Marine Biology, and/or computer sciences.

If you’d like to help a student pursue one of these careers, donate today!
