Barbara was born in Germany in 1942 and immigrated to Canada when she was 12. At 19, she joined the Royal Bank and became one of the first female branch managers. She moved to Mission in 1979 and with the exception of 10 years in Anaheim California she’s lived here since.
A dedicated volunteer, Barbara has helped Mission Association for Seniors Housing (MASH), Mission & District Senior Citizens Housing Association (Welton Towers), as well as over two decades of volunteering. She received the Queen Elizabeth Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002 and the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012. Barbara’s dedication to Mission earned her a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013, a Path and Pathfinders award in 2016 and awarded Freeman of the City in 2016.
Barbara was involved with the Business & Professional Women’s Club of Mission when it was active and through that association came to appreciate the Mission Community Foundation’s values and goals. She decided to start this fund in 2020 for any student pursuing post-secondary education at any accredited institution.
Barbara has left a gift in her will to Mission Community Foundation and this fund will finalize at that time.
