Not only was Bill Harris one of the Foundations founding fathers, he also was a true ambassador for our community. In the 1970’s & 80’s Bill was involved in local politics and held the position of Mayor for three terms during that time. He was awarded honor of Freeman of Mission in 1982, received the Paul Harris Fellowship as a Rotarian, and was instrumental in developing the Central Valley Water Commission & Norrish Creek Water Supply. He served on many boards: DARD, Chamber of Commerce, Advisory Planning Committee, and of course the Mission Community Foundation.

The GW (Bill) Harris Fund was created in 1996 as a Community Granting Fund and has assisted groups like Mission Arts Council, Mission Literacy in Motion, Big Brothers, Hope Central,Heritage Park and Mission Community Services Society in providing 19 grants totaling $12,300 for special projects and programs.
