Spreading the Word
The Board of Directors knew that the Foundation couldn’t survive on just one fund so they set to work. They started talking to their friends and clients, individually and at gatherings, spreading the word on Mission Foundation and what it wanted to achieve in our community.
The date is April 26, 1988 and the Board of directors sent invitations to local dignitaries, potential benefactors, board and committee members. They were invited to celebrate the establishment of the Foundation by an act of the BC Legislature. The event was held at the Mission Leisure centre and the main speaker during the event was Jack Quinn, then senior VP at CIBC. We can’t separate the fundraiser from the total amount donated in 1988 but the foundation realized just over $30,000 in donations that year.
