Cindy Verhulst was an impassioned individual who had the world at her feet.  She was involved in her community and her commitment included chairing the Youth Advisory Council for 2 years, volunteering for Red Cross and Mission Memorial Hospital, and she helped organize Missions first Dry Grad.   Her commitment to others even extended to supporting a child in Haiti.

Cindy also was an extremely talented singer and pianist.  She won awards or duet, vocal, jazz and chamber choir, was music librarian at Mission Senior Secondary and was lead vocalist in the Roadrunners Jazz Band.

When Cindy’s life was cut short by a drunk driver, David Fryer, a school music teacher and friend, organized a concert in her honour.  The St. Andrews Choir performed in suits donated by Rex Cox, Paul Janz, Kenny Hess & Mart Kenny also performed at the concert.

With over 600 people in attendance David managed to raise $5000 to start the Cynthia Verhulst Memorial Scholarship Fund.  The fund was fully established by 1997 and has produced 8 awards for a total of $5000 since that date.

Cindy’s fund is dedicated to students who are studying for a career in Music or Music Education.  If you would like to help, donate today!
